Leadership
Jacob Lopez
Founder & CEO
Jacob Lopez is a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA) who has dedicated his career to breaking down communication barriers for the deaf community. Growing up with deaf parents and a deaf brother, Jacob witnessed firsthand the daily challenges faced by those with hearing loss.
Starting to code at age 7, Jacob built his first deaf accessibility project at 16 — District Menu, a platform helping Gallaudet University students find accessible dining options. At 21, he founded Interpreting.app, which now serves thousands of ASL interpreters nationwide.
The tragic loss of his deaf brother Chris, who died from an overdose after being unable to access deaf-friendly rehabilitation services, drives Jacob's mission to ensure universal access to communication. His mother, a trilingual interpreter (ASL/English/Spanish), and aunt Winifred, with 18+ years in DDTP field services, continue to inspire his work.
"I grew up using CaptionFish to find movie theaters with captions," says Lopez. "Twenty years later, we're still fighting for basic access. Caption Glass™ changes that — bringing captions everywhere, not just in select venues."
Previous Experience:
- Founder, Interpreting.app (2021-present)
- Creator, District Menu for Gallaudet University (2018)
- Self-taught developer since age 7
